The rules to follow

Asylum seekers must respect the rules of the reception centre.

When you arrive in your reception centre, a member of staff explains how it operates and the rules to follow. They will give you a document which explains all the rules: the House Rules. This document is available in several languages. The document is very useful and it is important that you fully understand it.

The rules make it possible to keep the place clean and orderly. The rules also make it possible to ensure the safety of residents, and have control over people entering and leaving the building.

No violence or weapons

The use of violence is prohibited both inside and outside the reception centre. Knives, stabbing weapons or objects that can be used as weapons are prohibited.

The staff of the reception centre can check your room and cupboard to enforce this prohibition. Knives and stabbing weapons will always be confiscated. You will not get them back when you leave.

If you break the rules, you risk a severe penalty: transfer to another reception centre, exclusion from the reception network or prosecution by the police. The reception centre may also pass on certain information to the police and other competent (government) services.

If you have dangerous objects with you when you arrive at a reception centre, you must report them to a member of staff. The reception centre will take the dangerous objects into custody.

Sanctions

If you do not follow the rules, the director of the reception centre may give you a sanction. If you do not agree with the sanction you have received, you can appeal against the decision.

Sanctions and appeals are explained in the House Rules. Your social worker can also explain these rules.

Complaints

The House Rules also explain that if you do not agree with your living conditions in the reception location, you can lodge a complaint with the responsible complaints officer at your reception location.

Not satisfied with the response from your reception location? You can file a complaint with the regional director of Fedasil via info@fedasil.be.
