If you are recognised as a refugee or if you have a residence status, you can apply for a Belgian driving licence with your driving licence from your country of origin.
To drive a car, you must have a valid Belgian or international driving licence. If you have already obtained a driving licence in your country of origin, you can use this licence to apply for a Belgian driving licence. If you don't have a driving licence yet, you have to take a driving test.

If your driving licence is not recognised, you will have to obtain your driving licence again in Belgium and take a driving test in an official examination centre.

Taking a driving test
If you want a driving licence, you have to pass a theoretical and a practical exam. During the test, you will be tested to see if you can drive, and if you have the necessary knowledge and driving skills. You can take the theoretical exam in Dutch (in Flanders, Brussels), in French (in Wallonia, Brussels) or with the help of a sworn interpreter in German or English.
To learn how to drive a car, you can choose between a free course with a provisional driving licence or a course at a driving school. In certain cases, training in a driving school is compulsory.
