Your appointment at the Immigration Office

The Immigration Office invites you (sometimes several times) to ask you questions.

What will you be asked during the interview?

The interview with the Immigration Office does not last long. You need to explain the reasons why you are applying for international protection in Belgium.

An official at the Immigration Office will ask you questions and will write your answers on a document. You are assisted by an interpreter, so you understand the questions asked. At the end, the official of the Immigration Office re-reads the document and asks you to sign it to mark your agreement. You receive a copy of the document.

What happens after the interview?

The Immigration Office will check whether Belgium is responsible for processing your application for international protection. If Belgium is responsible, the Immigration Office forwards your case to the CGRS (CGRA/CGVS). The CGRS will invite you later for a long interview.

If your fingerprints are recognised by the system, this means that you were registered in another European country before arriving in Belgium. If this is the case, you may be sent to this country. This decision depends on EU rules (Dublin regulation).
