Checking the opening hours

Grocery stores

Shops where you can buy groceries, and supermarkets (Aldi, Lidl, Colruyt, Delhaize, Carrefour, Spar) are usually open at 8.30am and close after 6pm. Almost all shops are closed on Sundays.

You can also buy groceries from the local market. Most municipalities organise markets on a certain day through the week. The market day varies in every municipality and city.

Clothes shops

Most clothes shops in Belgium are open from 10am until 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Shops are closed on Sundays.

Night shops

In cities, large villages or along busy roads, there are shops that are only open at night. Night shops sell alcohol, cigarettes, food and some household products.

The products in night shops are often more expensive than in shops which are open during the day.

Pharmacies

You can only buy medicines from pharmacies. Pharmacies are usually open from 10am to 7pm, and on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm. Pharmacies are closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.

If you urgently need medication and you have permission from the doctor, you can go to a stand-by pharmacy.

This is a pharmacy in each region which is open at night or on Sundays. Ask the doctor which pharmacy is on stand-by.
