Equality

In Belgium, men and women are equal before the law. They have the same rights. It is prohibited by law not to give the same rights to a woman. You also cannot discriminate against anyone on the grounds of their origin, sexual orientation or religion.

Discrimination is illegal in Belgium

All Belgians are equal before the law. You cannot discriminate against someone on the grounds of their:

  • gender (being a man or woman)
  • race or skin colour
  • origin (nationality)
  • sexual orientation (preference for men or women)
  • birth
  • age
  • religion
  • disability

Gender equality

  • In Belgium, men and women are allowed to go to school, play sports, work, have sex, etc.
  • Women and men are free to choose their partners (men or women).
  • Just like men, women are free to decide what they do with their bodies (who can touch them, with whom they want contact, etc.).
  • Just like men, women can act completely independently, drive a car, open a bank account.
  • Just like men, women can work. Women are allowed to do any job, so they can also be doctors, police officers, lawyers or judges.
  • Men are also allowed to do any job, and can also work as nurses or cleaners.
