Women and the asylum procedure

Belgium gives special attention to women applying for international protection. During the interview with the CGRS (CGRA/CGVS) it is important that you talk about the difficulties from which you, as a woman, have fled.

It may be that, as a woman, you were confronted with difficulties in your home country, such as:

It is essential that you talk about your difficulties with your social worker or lawyer, and with the protection officer of the CGRS who will interview you. The  CGRS will take this into account in its decision.

Interview by a man or woman

Do you find it difficult to tell your story to a man or a woman? Ask the CGRS for a male or female protection officer and interpreter. The CGRS will try to accommodate your request. Ask your social worker to help you.
