Healthcare outside the reception centre

If necessary, you will also receive medical care from a health care provider outside the reception centre. This can be, for example, a general practitioner (GP), dentist, physiotherapist or psychologist.

The medical service will make an appointment for you. You can also make an appointment with a healthcare provider outside the centre yourself. You have to do that through a website or online app. You can also call the healthcare provider.

Always inform the medical service if you make an appointment with a healthcare provider outside the centre. The medical service will give you a requisitorium to hand over to the healthcare provider during the consultation. If you have a requisitorium you don't have to pay anything.

Medical care outside the reception centre

If you cannot attend your medical appointment, you should notify us as soon as possible. If you do not notify us, you will have to pay for the missed consultation. And be sure to arrive on time for your appointment!

A hospital appointment

The doctor or nurse may refer you to a hospital for an examination by a specialised doctor or for hospitalisation.

It is also possible to make an appointment at the hospital yourself. Always inform the medical service at the reception centre when making an appointment at the hospital.

Inform the hospital if you need an interpreter during the consultation.

The day you register at the hospital you have to bring your doctor's referral letter and your orange card or other identity document.

The hospital will first check whether you are entitled to the needed medical care from Fedasil. Some medical care requires the approval by a Fedasil doctor before the government health agency CAAMI-HZIV will reimburse the costs.

After approval by Fedasil, the health agency CAAMI-HZIV will pay your medical expenses directly to the hospital.

A visit to the hospital

A hospital's emergency department is only accessible for urgent medical assistance.

You only go to the emergency department:

•             by ambulance

•             after a referral from a general practitioner (GP)

•             when you yourself think that very urgent medical assistance is needed

Collecting medicine at the pharmacy

In a pharmacy, you can pick up the medicine prescribed by the doctor.

The pharmacist will also explain the use of medicine and possible side effects.

Always take the doctor's prescription and your orange card or other identity document with you to the pharmacy.

The pharmacist will first check whether you are entitled to the needed medical care from Fedasil. Some medical care requires the approval by a Fedasil doctor before the government health agency CAAMI-HZIV will reimburse the expenses. You can also buy medicine at the pharmacy that do not require a prescription, such as painkillers. If you buy medicine without a prescription, you will have to pay the full cost yourself.
